That's pretty much it. I never saw this version until this past week when it was on AMC. It's been forever since I saw the original and I do remember I really liked it but this one is great too. I'll have to watch them both again soon.

The girl character was great in both versions. John Wayne and Jeff bridges were both great, too. I like both versions.

Both versions have a place. The original was at times both stoic and somewhat comical - perfect for the time it was released. The later version was a little 'grittier' (lol), and was played with a bit more realism throughout. I like them both.

Both are awesome movies. I gave the original an 8 and remake a 9.

I loved this, then felt dirty at the end when I found out it was a remake. looks for his spittoon
Excellent dialogue and acting, although I struggled a bit with the enunciation/accent of Rooster. When Lebouf but his tongue I feared I'd I'd ti witness entire conversations where I could pick up nary a word. Three cheers for the rewind function.
8/10

The remake is one of my favorite films. The back-and-forth between Mattie and LaBeef and Cogburn is hilarious. "We have no rodeo clowns in Yell County."
Only problem I have with the film, and not sure if it's in the original, but at the end when Rooster has to ride Mattie to get medical attention, they ride right past a perfectly good riderless horse.

The Cohen version follows the source material of the Charles Portis novel True Grit closer. They are both fine films. You also might want to check out the John Wayne follow up Rooster Cogburn (1975).

The best John Wayne westerns include Red River, and The Searchers. Catch those for sure!
