Discuss The Nun

Probably my most anticipated horror movie this year just behind the new Halloween!

Great script but it looks more like a comedy movie than an horror movie. gomovies

It was ok, but mostly jump scares. My main issue was that unlike the Conjuring movies, nothing felt authentic. For instance, the only authentic Catholic prayers I could hear was Ave Maria and the Sign of the Cross. The rest seems made up.

It says it's based on a true story, but I don't remember ever reading about anything occurring like this ever. Turns out the story is actually based on a fictional book, "Il nome della rosa", turned move starring Sean Connery.

The only "true" part was a description supposedly told to James Wan by Lorraine Warren of a spirit that followed her as interpreted by the director. However, she never told him she was being followed by a Nun nor did she state that it's name was Valak. Valak comes from the Lesser Key of Solomon and described as:

The Sixty-second Spirit is Volac, or Valak, or Valu. He is a President Mighty and Great, and appeareth like a Child with Angel’s Wings, riding on a Two-headed Dragon. His Office is to give True Answers of Hidden Treasures, and to tell where Serpents may be seen. The which he will bring unto the Exorciser without any Force or Strength being by him employed. He governeth 38 Legions of Spirits, and his Seal is thus.

Basically a demon that gives knowledge of buried/hidden treasures when summoned. Which doesn't quite fit the whole Valak the Corruptor moniker the movies give him.

Neither the trailer or anything in the movie (or credits) have any claim about this being a true story. Having said that, I haven't investigated anything else about this movie.

There were no jump scares for me... everything that happened could be seen coming from a mile away.
