Discuter de Gold Diggers of 1935

That nearly 14 minutes epic production number is beyond impressive, and is something I can't imagine anyone, of whatever age or type entertainment tastes, no matter how hardened, being other than thoroughly wowed and entertained by. It's the height of addictive music and spectacular performance thereof, stunning, striking visual style and cool flair, commanding dancing that will blow anyone away, and a neat story within a story. The extended manic tap-dancing sequence is definitely not to be missed!

The Lullaby of Broadway number has nothing, whatsoever, to do with the rest of the movie (which I've never much cared for this film overall), instead is a fantasy sequence performed as part of a benefit show, and that tells the story of a "Broadway baby" who dances/parties all night and sleeps all day - then starts back over. Ultimately, an army of relentless tappers literally chase-dance the character to death!

I really like how the LoB number is book-ended by the spotlighted shots of just Wini's face, singing, as well as the casual (but still utterly stylish) scenes at her flat, that provide start and conclusion of the ill-fated woman's story. It's all visually striking and even now feels thoroughly modern, as does absolutely everything about the overall number.

Here's a clip of just the incredible tapping sequence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yx6s-YReOJY I especially enjoy the call-and-response (via dancing), girls-vs.-guys, parts of that!

By the way, reminder that this movie (in which the today massively famous "Lullaby of Broadway" song was introduced via this number) is from now 83 years ago!

It's incredible that not only was Busby Berkeley able to dream up such a joyously riveting gargantuan routine, but also was able to figure out how to actually make it a reality! It truly is a marvel!

The man definitely had imagination - and then some - unlike any other!

I agree with everything you said ... what a fantastic number. I've never seen so many tap dancers (or pianos) in one sequence. The movie plot is a bit weak but I'd still recommend the film solely based on the show they put on at the end. Stunning.
