Discuss Dune

Though apparently she is not knowledgeable enough of the desert to not let someone sneak behind her and stab her in the back even though she is in a wide open space with nobody else around for miles and in a surface where a footstep and movement would make a very clear auditory signal. Yeah, I'm not a 100% convinced her knowledge of the desert is as good as she thinks.

Anyways, since I'm here, am I the only one or is this movie like the directors Blade Runner 2049? Meaning both of them were largely much ado about nothing. A bunch of decent looking shots with not much of a story behind it. They should might as well have called this one Bladerunner 10191. Heck, it seemed like they had more advanced technology in 2049 than in 10191. In 10191 people have apparently regressed to fighting wars with swords for some reason. And what's the deal with those 'shields'? They kind of shield you from attacks except they don't really seem to shield anyone from anything and everyone seems to die in one sword strike regardless of the shields. Those shields are weak.....powerful weak...like Derringer bullets.

Just finished watching this, I still have to think on the whole experience BUT I have to say I was slightly irritated by everyone's pronunciation of Harkonnen! I know it's a little thing but...?

When I read the books a few years ago I kept saying Har-Conan-In while reading.

Well for all I know that might be what Herbert intended (this version) but since I have seen Lynch's version that's the pronunciation I am used to. I don't remember how they said it in the abysmal tv version.

Honestly it dosent really matter. As long as you get the point they are the bad guys. Which is pretty easy to see. Looking forward to Part 2 in hopes we get to see more and also who they cast as Feyd-Rautha.

I was disappointed in the Baron (not creepy enough), same with the worms, I expected MORE! & the time changes seemed (at least to me) unnecessary. I wish I had watched it sooner as I didn't realize that it was only available on HBO for a limited time. But I was happy that Duncan Idaho was in the movie a bit more than in the Lynch version. But the whole thing was just so different, I'm not really sure if I liked it? I'll wait & see after part 2 drops. I'm hoping that Villeneuve doesn't go too over the top with the casting of Feyd.

I enjoyed it. But I can tell how easy someone could get lost with the story if they dont know the Dune lore from the books. I think watching it with subs would help many people understand more. I thought the Baron was pretty good, he stole the show for me when he was on screen. I really wish they will show his love for the young slave boys and how masterfully he plays the political games in part 2. And I have no idea who can play Feyd in part 2. I hope they dont go over the top with the character as well.

I read all of Frank's & the first two that his son wrote (they were horrible). That's part of the problem when someone makes a movie from a well-known book, there's always something left out or changed. And someone will be disappointed. I need to see it again.

As someone who never read the books and did not know anything about Dune - Books, Original Movie etc.

I agree with all the comments here. This movie is a long set up of characters/introductions and a hint at the real plot starting in Part 2. Much ado about nothing i.e. overhyped.

Both Dune & The Eternals are not bad movies but also nothing worth all the overpraise - I felt the same 'meh' at the end of both. Not watched Bladerunner 2049 yet so can't compare.

I can enjoy a bad movie if it has some interesting plot points/visually different/new ideas/emotionally strong but these 2 movies fall under generic template of routine & dull.

I don't care about diversity - I am Female British Asian but that don't mean every movie I watch must have a Female or British or Asian Actor/Actress in it or somebody who is Female British Asian just to make me feel 'validated/seen' like the New Woke Gen seem to require, demand & over-celebrate.

Pre2020 Every Black & Brown managed to enjoy white only movies without issues. Representation is good when needed i.e character, but forcing it into everything i.e. all movies is bad.

Hadn't heard or read any praise for The Eternals

Only from the Marvel fan boys. Even the critics, who normally die whenever a new Marvel film comes out, hate it. Pretty weird.

Rewatched it last night & I'm still irritated about the pronunciation of Harkonnen!

Only thing I heard about part 2, that I dont like already, is that Villeneuve made Lady Jessicas part bigger. I would prefer they stuck with Paul and Chani more. I hope they didnt cut to much from the original to make room for more Jessica. I understand why they did it. I mean you have Rebecca Ferguson so you might as well use her to full potential but still rubs me the wrong way for some reason. I still think it will be amazing and you will get more Sand worms and hopefully more creepy Baron. Loved how much of a psycho he was in the books. They need to show his sadistic pedophilic tendencies in the film!
