Diskuter Love Affair

Throughout this film, Irene Dunne’s spot-on facial expressions and reactions, and her impeccable timing, both comic and dramatic, is superb. Miss Dunne was a truly delightful and charismatic star. Her way with a line in Love Affair is utter perfection.

During this movie do you do like I always do, when Terry says that her mother always told her never to enter a man's room in any months ending in "r", and recite all the months of the year in your head, to determine precisely which ones don't end with the letter "r"? I never can help doing that!

For the record, the months not ending with "r" are January, February, March, April, May, June, July, and August - which means Terry's mother certainly didn't give her a very effective cautionary rule to go by! wink

Loved this movie, have seen it probably fifty times (maybe more).

I realize it's in the public domain, though still wish some organization or label would give this film a much-deserved deluxe restoration. It would be wonderful to see all spiffed up.

I just loved this movie. Much more poignant than an Affair to Remember. I don't know how many times my eyes welled up. Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer were superb...

I totally agree with you, that this wonderful movie far surpasses An Affair to Remember (1957). I love, in this, the parts featuring Terry with the Boyer's grandmother character. Thoroughly poignant. Then later Terry receives the shaw, and we know exactly what that means. This is a movie with a whole lot of heart, that everything's gone about absolutely perfectly.

Another Irene Dunne movie I'm crazy about is The Awful Truth (1937). She's thoroughly hilarious in it, particularly when she pretends to be husband Cary Grant's loveable and unfiltered cheesy non-existent "Whooo!" (with wind effects!) singer-dancer sister! LOL!

Here is that clip (The Awful Truth):

LOL: Hilarious! Love it! rofl

Exactly correct.

Many a co-star has had nothing but finest praises for Miss Dunne and her consistently professional touches to her every scene throughout her outstanding film career.

One other point which Irene's character notes regards the vibrant colors of the grandmother's Azorian flower garden. To this day, when you see vibrant summer seasonal blooms, you think of her complimenting Maria Ouspenskaya's fine gardening even though it were planted in glorious Black and White.

Cannot get enough of Irene Dunne movies no matter how many times you see them. In all fairness, Deborah Kerr does do a fine, sensitive portrayal, as well, in one of only a handful of decent remakes ever done.

Miss Dunne is one of the few particularly gifted star actors or actresses who also had a classically trained singing voice as one of their talents. Between that and her ability to equally effectively handle both heavy drama and hilarious comedy, and to be wonderful doing either, truly made her a standout.
