Credit - this movie, made for release in 2024, really LOOKS like it predates the original The Omen, released in 1977. Remember when the Star Wars prequel trilogy looked more slick than the original trilogy? That was just one more reason I hated the PT...but I digress. Point here is, The First Omen looks like it avoided that. Kudos.
Criticism - the woman looking down from above and then doing something shocking is so derivative of the original, it's like they thought "it's an Omen movie, gotta have something like...um...I know...THIS."
Of course, I haven't seen it yet. Maybe my criticism is premature. Not even sure I will see this — while I consider The Omen to be among the scariest horror movies of all time, one with a theme so haunting that turns my stomach on any off chance I happen to hear it, because I'll never play it by choice, I've tempered down/away from horror in my Carlsberg years and prefer to limit the horrific images that I allow access into my brain.
Will be curious how its CinemaScore lands, because I'd be impressed the degree to which today's audiences even know about the original.
I'll watch out for early reviews and get a feel.
