In fairness, they didn't know what was happening to start with, it took them ages to figure out, and for everyone else to believe it they had to see it happen

Dude in the beginning actually takes the phone to call 911, but hesitates and cancels the call. I would too probably, thinking that you call more people to your location and then trying to explain very crazy idea that everything dies near your. I'd try to figure out what's going on before calling anyone
