So this was a slap over the head with a fire poker...and thats a good thing. Saw this tonight, and Im speechless. What a great and sick story. Really takes you to a strange future that is terrifying and intriguing all at the same time. Christopher Abbott kills it in this film, he really should be getting more work. Brandon Cronenberg def has the stuff to make a name for himself. I feel like his father had a few notes to give him on this project but Im glad he did. Really gory stuff, not for the weak. But if you are into sci fi thrillers/horror you have to give it a chance. Also that ending! Hope someone watches it as well so I can talk about it!

Weak writing. It's an interesting premise, ruined by lack of character development. I couldn't care less about the protagonist.

Really, I thought that was the point. Not to much background info so it stays a little more mysteries and you are able to relate to the unknown. Same thing with the world they live in. Not to much info just that its in the future. What did you think of the end? Do you think Vos always had a screw lose and the constant killing just pushed her over the edge? And damn Girder knew Tate would go to her home and had the fucking kid implanted, he was the decoy, along with the father to bring Tate in. And Vos admitted that she would be better off without her husband and at the end, without her son to. Really fucked up that she basically lived a lie and was a psychotic killer that eventually killed her family. What she told Girder in the beginning was true, she was a danger to her family.

Screener got leaked online awhile ago. And Bean gets fucked up pretty bad with a fire poker, and the news says hes in critical condition...so kind of survives? You never see him again.

Couldn't agree more. I've made it a rule to not read synopsises or reviews, watch trailers, comments, anything really, apart from genre and the general rating, before watching films.
Thus, I had no idea who made this, and actually expected an American mediocre horror film à la Blumhouse. Fuck me, was I pleasantly surprised. Having watched it, makes total sense to see it's Cronenberg's son who made this. Didn't know he had a son. Super excited that he put this child into the world, so that we can hopefully get more of this stuff.
What a marvellous, fantastic movie. Christ. Thought I'd become too old and watched too many movies to like any of them anymore, but holy shit. This was fantastic. Thank you, spawn of Cronenberg. Now do it a million times!

Def a refreshing film to watch. If you can handle the material. You should give The Wolf Of Snow Hollow a look, its a dark comedy/horror, a completely different tone than this. But worth a watch. Also The Void, a really creepy body horror/cult type of film, really good practical FX.

Ha! That's funny. I watched The Wolf of Snow Hollow recently, and had to give it a 10. I'm a very grumpy old man when it comes to movies, and I very, very rarely give out 10s, but the humor in that movie is off-the-charts genius IMHO. The performance Jim Cummings gives in it is some of the best underplayed, ironic comedy acting I've ever seen. And I was so sad to see — though not surprised — that the whole thing went completely over the heads of most other viewers. That was just pure unadulterated fun, and I immediately watched his other film, Thunder Road, which was good, but not nearly as good as Wolf. I hope he keeps making movies like Wolf — the world needs them :)

Okay, so I now watched The Void. Thanks for that tip, that was quite good. Very dark. It had a lot of the good that often comes with a low budget, and very little of the bad. It kinda reminded me of Hellraiser — that is, it reminded me of how I remember Hellraiser having watched a few of them as a youngster, not as they actually are (I rewatched one or two of them a few years back and was very disappointed). Also reminded me a bit of The Fly, but that's probably because a couple of the creatures in The Void look a bit like the final version of Brundlefly :D By the way, if you haven't re-watched The Fly, make sure to do so. It's an absolutely fantastic movie. When I watched it as a youngster, I was only interested in all the sci-fi horror gore stuff. I didn't realize back then that it's first and foremost a dramatic tragedy of epic proportions. It actually made me weep re-watching it, lol :D Not what I expected to happen!

Glad you liked it! Yes I can def see the resemblance to Hellraiser. The first one was great, one of my top 10 horror films, but the others after...not so much. I did like the Fly but never really got into it for some reason. Check out Color Out of Space if you want something else weird and trippy. Plus it has Nick Cage in it so thats always a win!

I was about to say that you do see him again in a wheelchair and eyepatch but I believe that was all in Vos's mind. Got the impression he survived though.
I did also wonder if the implanting caused Vos to become more unstable, but I guess considering her chosen profession it's more likely there was already an underlying issue there.
Great film, the Bean firepoker beating and the ending being particularly brutal.
