Good questions. I supposed it could have been lure people and to find and mark someone like Luke. Screen out those who were worthy to be worshipers from those to be sacrificed?

If I heard something out there in the woods and had to spend the night in a creepy cabin with a mini-Wicker Man upstairs I sure as hell would want to make sure it would be hard for someone or something get inside. I kind of doubt I would be getting much sleep anyway but who knows. After hiking all day, your body might shut down.
