Discuss Spider-Man: Far From Home

These movies have been so safe middle of the road fair that just don't care for. Especially for Spider-man. And i can see why people call this character, Ironboy. His whole identity is totally warped into tony stark. Its pretty cringey to watch Peter cry over Tony. When he never acknowledge his Uncle even F##king existed. Overall this movie was just meh. Even more so than the Homecoming. At least Homecoming had Micheal Keaton. Mysterio was more interesting as a good guy than a villian. Spidey Friends were more annoying than ever. Need Leads and his Girlfriend made me want punch both in the face. And i wasn't interested in Peter romance with the most unappealing teenage girl on the planet. I don't think Sony will do much better, at least not in the live action department. But also im not into the further adventures of Tony Starks Lapdog. And there always "Into the Spider-verse 2" to look forward. Especially Since Into the Spider-verse was better than both these movie. These movies are not as bad as TASM 1&2. But there pretty forgettable.

Whether or not Sony's movies are any good is actually beside the point.

The point is that Spider-Man belongs in the MCU because he should be interacting with other Marvel characters. Spider-Man is big friends be with the Human Torch when the Fantastic Four are introduced into the MCU, Spider-Man should be there. In fact, the FF should be introduced in a Spider-Man movie. The same could be said about a 1000 other MCU characters set to be introduced in the next few years. No one wants to see yet another Spider-Man reboot. And yes, if Sony goes through with their plan, they will have to reboot, they cannot possibly make a sequel to Far From Home. And knowing them, it will be yet another origin film. And no one wants to go back to the bad old days where every Marvel character occupied a separate universe and they never interacted.

But that's neither here nor there anyway because I'm not convinced that this is anything more than a negotiating tactic anyway. The terms of the previous contract, a 95/5 split in favor of Sony are grossly unfair and Sony has to know that. This is the kind of deal that someone makes after Vito Corleone makes you "an offer you can't refuse", it can't possibly continue. Disney made an offer, and Sony immediately bolted without making a counteroffer. This is not the behavior if a rational corporation looking out for the bottom line. It's the reaction of a petulant teenager who has just been asked to mow the lawn. I strongly suspect that in a couple of months, they will return to to the bargaining table.

Rumors have it that Disney got greedy and wanted more.

The current deal is that Sony gets 95% and Disney gets 5%, THAT us greedy, but not on Disney's part. Disney suggested that they become equal partners, 50/50. 50/59 is not "greedy" it is fair and reasonable. 95/5 is just an absurd deal, it's the kind of deal one agrees to only after Vito Corleone makes you "an offer you can't refuse". After suggesting 50/50, Sony didn't even make a counteroffer ('how about 70/30?' they just threw a big old temper tantrum.

In all seriousness, do you really WANT yet another Spider-Man reboot?

You forgot to mention that Disney gets 100% of the merchandise! Sony sees nothing. So Disney wanting more of the film profits IS greedy as hell. Its Disney, they have plenty of money. They souldnt have played hardball. Honestly, Sony probably wasnt going to agree to any deal since they want their own universe.

Merchandising is nothing, its like maybe $5-$10 million at most. It's nothing compared to the box office.

It's absurd that Sony seriously thinks they. deserve the full box office receipts for a movie for which they contribute NOTHING Disney pays for the production, writes the screeplay, casts the characters, pays for the marketing and the distribution, slaps a Sony Pictures logo on it and in exchange Sony gets all the money? You can't seriously think that is a reasonable deal. Disney agreed to it only out of desperation because they wanted Spider-Man in the MCU.

The MCU will do fine without Spider-Man, phase 4 is going cosmic, Spider-Man barely fits into their plans anyway. But Sony NEEDS the MCU, otherwise, the next Spider-Man film will be a bigger flop than "Amazing Spider-Man 2"

Originally it was reported that Sony offered 70/30 co financing split, but it wasnt good enough for Disney. They wanted 50/50 which would mean Sony would lose creative control. Than it was updated with Disney asked for 5% cut to increase to 25%. So a 75/25 split. Sony didnt counter it or negotiated for another deal. Sony led them on for six months and then made them look stupid. Sony knew for awhile they wanted Spider-Man back and were def not going to let him stay in the MCU. Cut throat business for sure. But I mean Spider-Man will be fine with Sony. The MCU will be just fine without Spider-Man, like you said they are cosmic and lets not forget woke as fuck with A-Force and X-People! joy

Don't can't "lose" creative control because they have never had it to begin with. The entire point of the Marvel/Sony deal is this Sony agreed to give up creative control in exchange for getting a share of the MCU pie.

I agree with a fair bit of what you said. I did enjoy Homecoming and Far From Home but they are nothing special. And they are making Spiderman too much like Iron Man with all the over the top suits and gadgets.

And yeah, I am looking forward to Into the Spider-verse 2 so much more. Into the Spider-verse was brilliant!

I didn't know selling toys was so lucrative.

Ask George Lucas about that
