I spotted the prosthetic on Martin Freeman very early, clued in by his unique voice and mannerisms, but I don't think that was the twist really. I think where the story is most clever is in its manipulation of the viewer. It starts out telling you there is an explanation for everything, and then scene by scene starts to convince you there isn't, until by the time the finale on the train tracks arrives, you're convinced this is some sort of hellscape or purgatory or other supernatural environment. Then just when you finally believe in the supernatural, it lands you straight back into a rational scenario that justifies almost everything that's been going on, and gives a new double meaning to the phrase they've repeated throughout, that the brain sees only what it wants to see. The whole film illustrates how susceptible we all are to belief in something more.
Nice little flick. No masterpiece, but good old-fashioned entertainment.

Yep! I loved it... I didn't click it was Martin Freeman as I'm not so familiar with his films, but thought Paul Whitehouse was great - very different from his comical roles.

This was a great fresh breath of air in the horror genre - good old fashion scare stories, yeah! Didn't recognize the little british guy, but it was obvious that the face was a lot of plastered goey makeup stuff... so no surprise unfortunately there :'-(

I didn't expect that ending, good for me since made it less scary and more awesome lol but very thrilling esp the asylum part

I guessed something was up with the main character when he saw himself in a deathly state in the car window. But wasn't expecting Martin Freeman to be in prosthetics (although obvious someone was).
Really enjoyed this though, some great scares!

Goodman seeing himself dead in the car was a bit too much of a tip-off, although I still didn't guess the final reveal. I just thought he was dead and in hell. Close, I guess. The scene in the tunnel towards the end also could have been better integrated into his on-going development. This traumatic childhood event seems to come out of nowhere at the 11th hour, and plays a possibly pivotal role in Goodman's outcome.
I enjoyed the movie, but I do think it was over-hyped. I was expecting more of something else. Kind of like It Comes at Night, good cerebral thriller sold as a scary horror movie.
