Love this film, very touching! Started slow but it was all worth it when we got to the end. Just by observing the characters, you can sometimes guess what might happen, but still when it does I just felt for them. And I loved the long shots, it's so beautifully made.
Has anyone else seen it? It's on Netflix now.

It's certainly a grand achievement visually and aurally (the sound design is stunning). There are some deeply moving moments, too - the ending, while a little too neat, really felt earned.
I do feel that the critical response has been a little out of proportion to its achievements. It's been compared to the work of Fellini, Antonioni and others, which seems a little unfair. Cuaron isn't in that class. Also I did find that, for a fairly lengthy film purporting to observe a family, not one of the four kids was given much of a personality or any real development.
But a rewarding film and one which I would highly recommend to patient viewers. 7/10

saw it and it seem extremely overhyped, i don't understand what's the point of B&W, it would not be not less but more impressive in color and I don't think they had budget reason to shoot B&W, also as drama not that interesting, if I want see good family drama I can just watch something from Koreeda which it's on completely different (higher) level than this pretentious movie, heck even Iranian About Elly was better drama related to one scene from this
color me disappointed, I gave it decent 7 although it's probably worth only 6, but it's difficult to find nice new movies, The Guilty was quite good, heck compared to this I like probably more even predicable Everybody knows, not mentioning A fantastic woman, which Im gonna rate higher since it tops Roma and EK

I liked it 8/10. It's nice to see something about Mexico that has nothing to do with an effing wall.

Don't understand the love for this film. Some impressive shots and a smart visual style, but beyond that, there's really little to it. I think this is a case of the Emperor's New Clothes.

I'm a fan of Cuaron, and the movie is beautifully shot (the B&W works in its favor), and the acting is spot on...but what a waste of 2 hours. Borrrrrriing! Glad it won Best Director (deserved), but didn't win Best Picture!
