Solid effort on part of the filmmakers, great visuals. I remember watching the short film on youtube a while back. Definitely worth checking out both. Good to see Martin Freeman in a starring role as well.

God this depressed the shit out of me! Very well acted from everyone. Great cinematography, but than again you cant really go bad with the great Outback. The budget seemed low but I think that helped it actually. Felt more intimate that way. Some characters do some really stupid stuff, but thats to be expected in a horror film. Im really digging the new takes on zombies recently. Check out The Cured if you want a fresh take like this film.

What were all the stupid things the lead character did? I just watched it and thought it was excellent. Felt totally unlike a usual horror movie, really original, and without the usual frustrations. I'm curious what you guys feel let it down?

SPOILERS
I felt that the wife in the beginning - after he returns from the abandoned boat with food - looking visibly rattled - would have benefitted from a warning - like "I heard something growling in that boat - don't you go near it". But no - he doesn't warn her and then off she goes - doing what intrepid modern women do - regardless of the fact he had already gotten provisions and that there was a baby left behind - and goes to the boat. Once there does she run hell for leather once she hears a rattling in the back? Nah - hang around and get bit - doesn't everyone?

In fairness though, he has a really good reason for not telling her, which is that she would be furious with him for going alone and risking the safety of all three of them. That's why he has to insist it's perfectly safe, because he knows if he admits there was a risk he'll never hear the end of it. How was he supposed to know she would go to the boat herself? As you point out, he'd already retrieved provisions so there was no reason for her to go. As a criticism, I would say her decision to board the boat is much less justified than his decision not to tell her.
Re: running hell for leather - she's in deep water so can't really run, and she does immediately move to get away, but she doesn't want to splash and draw attention to herself as the thing might not have realised she was there until then. Again, I'd say that was pretty rational behaviour. It's what any of us would do when we're hoping we haven't been noticed by something dangerous - move really slowly away so as not to draw attention.
