I'm talking to the fanboy & girls who HAVE to go see it THIS weekend! Would just love some opinions...
At first I was excited about the idea of Aladdin & Lion King live action (loved these movies as a teenager..saw both movies TWICE in theaters on dates back in the day..lol)...but then it dawned on me that I REALLY don't need a live action retelling of animated movies that told the story so beautifully. Factor in crappy redo's like Beauty & The Beast & Dumbo...better off waiting til its on TV

Me!
Like Beauty & the Beast I was excited to see it, even if I still prefer original animated version. I can't even rewatch the live action version but it was still nice to see (to compare) like if I was in Disneyland and there's a play version - will watch it! Same here for Aladdin. For soundtracks I'm too loyal to the original but open to see other versions. I don't need a live action remake but since it's there and they made it - great popcorn bonding time with family, kids etc.

I really liked the live action Cinderella and BatB. Wanted to see Dumbo, but will now have to wait until VoD. However I wasn't hugely impressed by the original Lion King or Aladdin, so will probably give it a miss theatrically - there's a slightly higher chance that I might go see LK.

Go watch Aladdin. This movie is awesome! It really captures the feel of the original movie.
Will Smith is an excellent Genie.

HEY NOW...don't knock him! My kids are teenagers (18 & 14) and YES, we've bonded through film. Unlike mom who likes her some rom coms, my kids came out more like ME...they LOVE a good scary movie and some of the classics. We watched multiple movie series before their time, like Back to the Future & Lord of the Rings for example!
And Whenever a movie IP haunt is announced for Halloween Horror Nights, we'll watch said movie (last year it was Poltergeist, Halloween 4 & Killer Klowns From Outer Space) and we watched ALL together...we do the houses together and compare how accurate they are to their respective movies.
You CAN bond through film...any way to bond with a child gets kudos from me as a parent!

Sadly, it's also a blatant cash grab for Disney since the people who came up with the original movie aren't getting a dime for it. Ditto with the other "live action" movies.

Pretty sure composer Alan Menken is getting considerably more than a dime.

I didn't "have" to see this, but I was very interested in it. I either never saw most of the Disney animated classics as a child, or saw them at such a young age that I don't remember much about them. The ones that were most memorable for me were Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and the Lion King, which came out when I was aged 10 - 13. Aladdin happened to be my favorite, and I don't think they could have cast a more perfect live-action Jasmine than Naomi Scott. The Aladdin actor and Will Smith as the Genie were also very good. My main issue was that I think they should have done a better job with the Genie CGI, but pretty much everyone already agreed on that point from the moment the first trailer came out. Fortunately, Genie was in his human form for most of his screen time.
I actually treated myself to a double-feature of musicals with Rocketman and Aladdin yesterday, and I much preferred Aladdin. I saw Dumbo a few months ago with extended family for a second-cousin's 9th birthday. I was actually pleasantly surprised, but I never held the original in high regard to begin with. The main thing I remember from the old animated movie was the Pink Elephants on Parade which terrified me as a child.
