when you see the end reveal, you of course realize the alternate intentions of rose retrospectively, during the cop traffic stop, she is so keen for chris not to give up his ID to the officer, seemed noble at first :)

yes. I thought same thing after viewing. I also thought cop car at the end would be the one who pulled them over and that he had a hunch something wrong was going down. But TSA guy was a humorous touch

yeah same here, (just as that potentially, white cop pulls up) - you have the awful stereotype of a bloodied black guy pinning down an affluent white woman, with bodies surrounding them, i had that feeling of dread that was all gonna get pinned on chris, in fact, it could have been a very brave directorial decision, a 360 twist if you will, to play it out like that - no happy ending!

Having Chris go down for murder was actually the original ending but the director decided it was too heavy after all the recent shootings of black men by cops. I must admit that the original ending, while more realistic, would have really pissed me off.

well, the counter to that is that there has also been an unprecedented number of cops(black ones too) targeted & killed by black men. so it works both ways in terms of "heavyness" - truth be told, that shouldn't affect plotline, nor be considered

Yeah... the "feel good" ending was a cop out... it would have been so much more compelling had Peele kept the original ending...
They could have left it open ended... as in the cop from earlier in the movie shows up and it cuts to black... leaving us to wonder what would happen... that would have been so much more thought provoking and interesting...

of course it should be considered, as this film is a satire of white racism and stereotypes of black masculinity. the director recognised that the original ending would have raked over some painful open wounds. your "whataboutery" is not very helpful. the fact that cops have been killed does not make the death of unarmed black men any less tragic.

I would still consider it as happy ending for main character compared to other options he had - ending up dead or trapped in own body.
