Yeah I can agree with you on that. Out of interest why do you think having the other ending works better for the movie and what does it lose by not having it?

I apologise if you've already answered this but your comments above don't really go into detail. Only asking cause I'm genuinely interested and like having these civil discussions with people who share a different opinion so I can get their point of view.

I know you've stated that the ending is too Hollywood and safe. But I disagree considering the genre, most thriller/horror (I know this is comedy as well) films end with the main character in a bad spot either dead, insane or locked up. Can't really think of many that end with the character being rescued or safe at the end. And usually if they do they have some gimmicky crazy wink by the main character at the end, to suggest they might no be that sane after all. If anything ending the film on happy note is going against the hollywood standard for thriller/horror films would it not?

As for the genre of the film it falls under the comedy/thriller/horror bracket. Although I would mainly argue that the film is a comedy with the other two genre elements present. This may render my previous statement. But with seeing the film from a comedy point of view, it wouldn't really suit the film if it had the other ending. As although the film does deal with racism and perception of African Americans, it's still all done very tongue in cheek. And from my interpretation the film wasn't trying to make some major statement. Unless you argue that it was stating something like African Americans can escape the perception and stereotypes that some white people may have of them if they stick together. But anyway I don't think the movie was aiming to end with a big statement like that.

Although maybe it just comes down to personal preference. I was expecting the film to end with him getting shot or locked up by the police. So I'm glad it didn't as it would have been predictable and would've been trying to make a big statement when the movie itself wasn't all that serious.

I think an open ended ending, slightly ambiguous ending would have been the best... with the police arriving... but without knowing what happens...

That way, it would be so much fun to discuss and imagine the outcome... That would be my favourite ending for a movie like this one. Hollywood nowadays tends to prefer neat endings that tidy all loose ends or endings that set up for sequels.

I still think the alternative ending with the police arresting Chris at the end is better than the current one with the TSA guy picking him up... it's more horror and it introduces a new element of real world horror to the movie... so instead of being worried about body-sntaching psychos we're faced by the real horror of an innocent man under arrest... that would be an interesting twist for the end... it would make it a far darker movie though and less of a comedy...

By I guess a downer ending is something that is familiar to the genre...

I would have liked a downer ending just to not have the cocky viewers claim that the black man won at the end when I wasn't to rain on there parade with there not really being a winner with Chris maybe having to deal with certain psychological stuff and who knows how he could deal with trust issues he might now have

Chris is definitely scared for life in any case... if you thought he was neurotic in the beginning of the movie, he's certainly screwed now!

I wonder if we will see anything alternate endings on the DVD/BluRay.

I thought that the cop from the beginning was going to show up at the end and think that Chris murdered Rose and her family, therefore placing Chris under arrest. But I am happy with the ending we got. After all Chris went through, we as the audience needed a happy ending.

I liked the ending we got in the final movie. The alternate ending is what I was expecting the ending to actually be. Rose calling out help I thought either Chris will get arrested or they will end up shooting him due to how the scene looks.

Overall I think the movie was very good and deserved a lot of the praise it got.
