I came across this article on Cracked.com
http://www.cracked.com/blog/how-get-out-pioneering-brand-new-genre-horror/
I'm a huge fan of the films that are mentioned within the article - but I honestly thought Get Out was aiming at being a parody or satire of some sorts rather than a genuine horror film. Maybe it's the marketing or I'm too much of a Key & Peele fan to have even thought about it, but how scary can this film actually be? I'm incredibly curious about this film.

Its more of a satire as you initially thought, though there are classic horror elements in it the bring out legitimate suspense (I counted only one jump scare in it).

Pioneering? No. It didn't even seem like proper horror movie to me. I find the recent thrillers called horrors pretty weak, same goes for It Follows, how can it be called horror if I can just walk away from monster or manage it many ways? Here we see some family visit with hypnotized people, I didn't find it really scary or that I would be holding my breathe like at Don't breathe or enjoying it like 1408 and other classics. This felt more like Scream and Cabin in the woods, some horrorish comedy/action, though I have to admit I liked racist undertone.
