Discusión Hotel Artemis

This was a really unexpected treat. I did not think this type of film would be released in the summer as it is not an FX laden blockbuster. It is a very interesting character based film with just enough action to keep things interesting but it is a refreshing change of pace.

I saw this one week after Upgrade. I think the two of them would have worked well together as a double feature at a drive-in with Hotel Artemis being the 2nd feature. The way it worked for me is one week I saw Upgrade with Deadpool 2, and the next week was Hotel Artemis with Deadpool 2. At least I had the chance to see Deadpool 2 twice.

They released it in a very bad time of year for that type of film.

Yes, I believe your are correct as you said the first time that it would have been better if it was not released in the summer. Mid to late September possibly, (for you because I think you liked it more than me) and maybe even some time in October. For me the reality is they should have waited till after the new year sometime between January through mid March with mid February being the best pick (in my opinion) for that movie.

Guardian's four star review was surprising.

What's not surprising is the movie came and very quickly went.

Screening was reduced like 95 per cent only after two weeks or so.

I take it that 15 million is low for a movie budget these days, and with a budget that low it should help a movie make back it's investment pretty quickly and make a profit. I keep reading a movie has to double it's budget to make a profit, and in the case of Hotel Artemis the world wide gross so far is 8.3 million...most of that coming from the United States.

What's worth to appreciate about Artemis makers is that in the age of super heroes in gigantic worlds and spaces they had the courage for this small setting, making HA almost a chamber play. And what must be the reason why Foster signed, because of her evidently love for tiny, narrow places like...Panic Rooms, Carnage's apartment, Down The Lane, Nell's cabin, cellars dark that you need green night view...little spheres which take you through worm holes...and about another twenty movies.

I never thought about it that way. I usually think of Jodie as being from the Bad News Bears.

Amazingly when only one year younger Tatum O'Neal still made kids movies, Jodie Foster already had streewalking runaways, underage delinquents, bringing death by poisoned tea, a terminal ill child and all kind of other 'survivor' types with no real family on her résumé. Jodie Foster was just everywhere and 1st in the 70s.
