Theatrical release for Quiet Place, and it was released first. That's my guess.

Why was it that A Quiet Place has so much higher rating than Bird Box? What makes one so much special compared to the other?

I think I rated them same, equally good, not great but good movies, though a quiet place is more intimate with better atmosphere AFAIR
