I may be wrong, but I thought the first time they came out was around the mid 70s. I never had one, but that's when I remember seeing them for the first time.

"My Girl" (1991,) and the sequel "My Girl 2" (1994...) came out when mood rings had already been in the market for a good 15 years. By that time; they seemed old fashioned to me.

The movies came out in the 90's but they 'took place' in the 70's. The first took place in the summer of 1972. The second was in the spring of 1974.

I don't know if kids of the '90s would have known about mood rings if not for this movie. Maybe I'm wrong.
