Discuss Ocean's Eight

As the main selling point of the Ocean's films was a particular brand of easy going cool and slickness, I was quite surprised at how uncool the chosen cast were for it's all women counterpart. Not that I dislike them or think them untalented. Just that they're miscast. (Except for maybe Rihanna. But her bubble gum pop image arguably compromises things)

So who would you pick for a more appropriate, all women team that would blend more naturally with the series' style?

Here's my attempt. And don't worry, I've taken into account diversity and the more aged. I'm also thinking about budgetary limitations so I'm not picking 8 multi-million dollar movie stars.

  1. Charlize Theron
  2. Marion Cotillard
  3. Jane Fonda
  4. Zoe Kravitz
  5. Freida Pinto
  6. Robin Wright
  7. Rinko Kikuchi
  8. Janelle Monae

Dude, his insult was way funnier than yours have ever been. He kicked you're ass with one post. I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but I think you should give up your day job. The whole trolling thing just isn't for you. You just say the same things over and over again. 'That's shit', 'You're stupid', 'This is garbage', etc, etc, etc.

Sometimes it's just time to move on.

Just ignore him... I have... He'll basically end up talking to himself on this board... He adds zero value to the board...

Actual cooler/hotter list... I really think they should have had more younger women and more singers and bigger celebrities... Oceans movies are about fun and while women do look up to and admire Sandra and Cate, they don't exactly screem 'fun' or cool...

  • Rihanna (Keep her. She works in Oceans 8)
  • Arianna Grande
  • Katey Perry or Taylor Swift (pick one)
  • Anne Hathaway (Keep her, you need actual actresses)
  • Scarlet Johanson (Star power)
  • Jenifer Lawrence (Star power, hot and fun. Girls want to be her)
  • Marion Cotillard (Is French)
  • Priyanka Chopra (a bit of spice)

Thoughts?

In fact was this reply meant to make me weep and cry into my pillow? Or throw myself off a bridge because an incel with a tmdb account thinks he knows cuss wordz? Do you literally think in your empty head that I would care what you think? Think again. You stick to your imaginable (top ten list of women who'd never give me the time of day) lists you type up in your basement and leave the thinking to someone else.

Of all posters here you are the one most concerned with what other posters think of you. You want to be engagged because it gives meaning to your life (this post will probably be the climax of your day)... It's clear to all posters how much this online persona of yours actually means to you... Yet it is so generic, so banal, simple internet rage and nothing else...

Don't worry... You can share your thoughts on movies here. We won't think any less of you (how could we as you've set the bar so low...)... Really... Anything anyone says about movies is better than the banalities of your internet-boy insults... Even this following list of Alt-LifeStyle Oceans 8 alternatives (we all know exactly what you're going to say about this list... You are that predictable and humourless)...

Haha, you got it all spot on there.

Just ignore him... I have... He'll basically end up talking to himself on this board... He adds zero value to the board...

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Depends on my mood. Sometimes it's funny to prod him and see what crazy shit comes out.

Ricky Martin in Ocean's 8? How about all the Backstreet Boys too :p

Interesting. I do think that would make for a very expensive film, though. I'll be honest, I don't see those pop stars as cool in any way. But Hathaway, Lawrence and Johanson I could see working. No idea who Priyanka Chopra is.

Why not? Haha! Maybe a more relevant band for young people... Perhaps One Direction or whomever... I don't think Bieber has any friends and I'm not sure if kids still liten to him...

I would suggest some of the hiphop clowns, but I don't think they have the draw and most of their fans probably pirate movies anyway 😉.... (just kidding!)

Pop stars aren't cool, but the teens like them... What is actually cool? Coltrane, Sinatra... Maybe Oasis... That's is... Cool is passé to the current youth as they prefer ironic, self referential bands instead of cool... Or alernatively the knowingly presented and manicured musicians like Swift and co. or the 'sexy' alternatives like Grande and such... They know they are a product, but then again all young people <25 (and most older people today) present themselves to society in a reality TV/youtuber celeb way, with their social media 'presence' managed and 'curated'... So the youth identify with this as this is the only world they know...

The idea that young women and girls would line up to see middle aged women in a heist movie is daft, but the studios know this and thier casting is more for the older market which is why it was conceived as a smaller movie... My casting works for younger women as well...

Chopra is a Bollywood babe who has had a few Hollywood movies... I can't think of an actual Hollywood actress who is Asian (Indian, Chinese, etc...) to add something for that demo... It is needed as most of the usual American Asian suspects are too nerdy, bland or unsexy... Maybe the girl from The Bling Ring...

When I say 'cool' I mean the kind of specific style that the Ocean's film go for. A Steven Soderbergh kind of classy slickness. So it's not just any kind of cool. And I don't think bubble gum pop stars would look at home in that kind of film. I definitely think the cast they chose are mostly too old but they shouldn't be too young either. There needs to be a mix.

That's why I opted for Frieda Pinto (Indian) and Rinko Kikuchi (Japanese). Though there is also Lucy Liu or Zhang Ziyi. I don't think the whole gang need to be megastars. A lot of George Clooney's gang weren't.

Well now this discussion is going great. joy

Man, you made me so sad to realize that she's so successful in daytime TV we'll probably never see her in another movie. Well, aside from her voice. Ellen brings a bit of old-school ditzy humor and self-effacing charm to every performance that I find very endearing. Although I never, ever watch her TV show (can't stand talk shows), the snippets I've seen on Youtube have me convinced that she's quite possibly the best daytime host ever. Let's hope that at the very least they bring her back for a few Oscars again (and Billy Crystal, too.)

It's weird that anyone gets upset about lesbians or gay men in film. I happen to adore actors and actresses for their performance and I couldn't care less who they find attractive between the sheets. Then again, I don't grab a People magazine and hand lotion when I feel horny.

Ah well, folks complain about everything.

EDIT: I'll respectfully disagree on several of your choices, though as they're your opinion you're entitled to them. There are a few instances of pop musicians moving on to film that I agree with, but in most cases they're not trained to be actors and it shows. I couldn't watch Perry or Grande and the two roles I've seen Rhianna in (Battleship and Valerian) haven't exactly been memorable. But as I said, opinions are personal and you're entitled to yours as INSANE as I think they are. ;)

Have you seen her nighttime game show Alien? It's pretty funny & entertaining (I think the eps are on Hulu & the NBC website).
