Discuss The Boogey Man

So Willie stabs the Lover as he is credited in the back, and the guy is pretty much defenseless - note: the guy takes every blow without flinching, was he drunk or on drugs? Nothing happens to Willie? Was the murder of the lover justified?

The guy was just screwing their mother which proves he had a healthy libido, sure he tied up Willie, but he didn't molest him or beat him. The plot itself is bizarre.

And when Willie was an adult, why wasn't he charged with assault or attempted murder when he choked that woman who gave him the come hither? She came over for eggs and sure she expressed interest in Willie's willie but what was up with that? He chokes her and she leaves? And the police aren't called?

What's up with the police in this town?

The mother's lover was a tad drunk; that plus the unexpected attack and the blade possibly hitting a vital organ or artery evidently contributed to his motionless response to the killing. It's also possible that the mirror -- which obviously had a supernatural component -- took the opportunity to apprehend his soul at the precise moment the knife penetrated his back.

The boy was moved to deadly rage because (1) he was mad about his mother having loose sex with someone other than his father and, especially, (2) the man seriously abused him by tying him to the bed posts. He might have only been like 5 years-old, but you could still chalk his radical response up to "toxic masculinity."

The female that Willie choked in the barn might not have told anyone about the encounter because (1) she was alive & well and (2) she didn't want rumors surfacing about her amorous proclivities. It's also possible that she told a relative or friend (or the authorities) and a confrontation with Willie was yet to come. Another possibility is that he was confronted off camera, but his muteness and the lack of evidence prevented anyone from doing much about it.
