I felt that this movie was overlong and the characters just seemed to pop up out of nowhere with no explanation as to who they were or how they related to the missing woman until the final scene. At one point some character said she did something for the missing woman but didn't say what it was or why - that is irritating. I also found it odd that two grown men who claimed to be straight would call each other babe. I still don't know how they ended up in Berlin doing the jobs they did. The scenery was very much like Blade Runner and had too many people walking about obviously aimlessly. The acting was Ok but basically it was just a walk around and find out stuff plot that didn't hold my interest.

While I do agree with the last two sentences and in general the movie being just not good, I don't agree about the first parts. Movies don't have to explain anything, if you don't understand something and that's why you are irritated - then it's you that lacks imagination. And if the dynamics between Cactus and Duck seems weird to you, then you don't watch a lot of movies. As weirdness goes they are not that strange, this was actually the better aspects of this movie. But I do acknowledge that the effect is worse because the movie is not very good.

I mean, it's a nice idea and some story elements were quite good on the paper, but Duncan is clearly not a good enough director as he barely manages to get something decent from all the potential story could've had. He knows how to make movies, technically, he knows what he is doing. The problem is that what he knows is not enough, and he lacks that special something in artistic approach that can give the movie something more significant then just bunch of scenes stitched together, he is just too dry as a director. Up until now in all of his four movies he clearly knows how to pick up a story with potential, but from that point everything else just goes down until the final unsatisfying result.

I think the gayness of their relationship is just a reflection of the feminisation of men... it's a near future movie, so it is meant to feel a bit odd, just as it is odd to our grandfathers to hear grown men talk about their feeling in public, post duckface selfies of themselves wearing spandex at the gym and how they cry about not being coddled enough in thier teen years and such...

I don't think they even consumated their relationship and there was probably some sexual jealousy involved...

D-magic - I am an avid fan of most genres of movies and have seen - must be - thousands in my time. I don't agree that movies don't have to explain anything - it is not up to me to imagine things - surely the creator has that responsibility - the plot should progress out of their imagination not mine. The "babe" calling just seemed overdone and designed to make you wonder if they were gay or not - as if anyone cares these days. His muteness really was unnecessary, as was setting it in the future, it would have made no difference had it been set in the present day with a guy who could talk. Very disappointing.

Damienracer - everyone reacts differently to things - one man's meat is another man's poison - etc. You may well enjoy it - if not - oh well - just turn it off !! Don't be influenced by other people - make up your own mind. Good Luck !!

This movie requires the viewer to really pay attention and connect the dots and if you don't understand something the first time you will 100% the second time. Pretty much everything meant to be explained, is.

I'm assuming the character you're referring to is Luba (the waiter guy with the blond hair at the beginning of the movie; later dressed as a woman in a red dress/red hair) saying how he would do anything for the missing woman (Naadirah). It's clearly explained that he's obsessed with her and was prostituting himself on the side and giving her the money because she told him she needed money.

The two grown men are a nod to MASH characters Hawkeye Pierce and Trapper John, one of which would say "babe"

While it's not explained exactly why they're doing the jobs they are, why is anyone in the movie doing the job they are? One of the doctors (Cactus) is AWOL and can't really get a normal job since he is trying to avoid authority etc. And the other one (Duck) was recommended by Cactus as a good surgeon. Duck had a running practice seeing patients in his "day job".

Berlin has shit tons of people walking around, present day. I've been there...

Basically, everything is explained if you watch closely.

Seemingly Sleepy - thanks for taking the trouble to respond - I admit that when get bored my attention tends to wander !!! I didn't get the nod to "Mash" as I didn't watch that series very much. I just thought that this film could have been so much better than it turned out.

No problem. I was spacing out and tired when I watched it the first time. I've seen it a few more times now and I just really like it for some reason. There is room for improvement, but I love it anyway. I'm sad for the film that everyone hated it, ha. Oh well.
