Did you edit the first post? I can't remember seeing the distinction between tearjerkers and romances that are tearjerkers. Out of the ones I mentioned I'd say "Somewhere" is definitely in the latter category, "The Notebook" kind-of is, too.

I didn't say, but I actually watched the Notebook a few years ago. I don't remember much. But I just remember that scene which is what the DVD cover has on the cover: kissing in the rain. Phillippe, and yes, I don't remember much, but I would definitely classify the film as a romance film :)

I watched around the first 30 minutes of Mask. (Until the part where they are in a park and there's a belligerent man who seemed to love getting into fights with the other guys in that park!) I stopped at that point. In my movie-fasting, I've put it off. I may continue with the rest of the movie later (as in, not anytime soon). Still, no spoilers until then. :)

Well, I tracked down "The Vow" and thought it was a sweet movie - if somewhat familiar. Mlle LeMarchand announced a few minutes in that she'd seen it, but couldn't remember what happened, and Mme LeMarchand was tying to decide if she was remembering the trailer or the movie. When I came to rate it I found that I'd already done so and somehow forgotten! I'm afraid it left me dry eyed. In fact, I think "50 First Dates" (which has a similar theme) caused more of an emotional response.

I've just watched Maudie. Loved it. Closely follows the details of a true couple. The woman is crippled (arthritis) yet with such a sweet, sweet disposition. Her paintings reflect her sweet outlook. One painting had an "Autumn tree" (red leaves) and a "Spring tree" (green leaves). When a buyer-turned-friend asked her about them, Maudie said something like she likes to have the best of all things in one painting.

Her husband treated her ill at first, but only later did he soon learn how perfect she was for him.

(Before personal computers, etc.) I'd heard of this movie, but it seldom appears anywhere but Turner Classic Movies due to it's age. No doubt this kind of story may happen in The City, but the burden placed on the eldest child would shatter an adult.

This is another movie I'd heard of over the years, and when I finally saw it, all I can say is: Edward G. Robinson was criminally underused for non-Gangster roles!

This is why, when Charter Spectrum recently terminated analog TV for digital, I bit the bullet for the Tier 1/"Silver" package upgrade to preserve access to Animal Planet and Turner Classic Movies.
