Each of these movies complimented the other especially at the parts of the plots that demanded explanations from bothof these movies' scripts. What happened for instance in the war front had to be explained in a scene by Churchill in the Darkest Hour. Same for Dunkirk were it was needed to be explained in script how these troops were trapped in Dunkirk's beaches and why the civilian boats went there to get them. Honestly now I'd die to see a combined fan edit of both these movies made as one.

I prefer Dunkirk... Far more cinematic and gives us a better idea of what was at stake and interesting portrayals of cowardice, heroism and many ideas in between...

Yes, Darkest Hour has Oldman's quality portrayal of Churchill, but the gravity of the decisions didn't really hit home as strongly, which is odd as Dunkirk has a much more detached, less personal style...

I think they would make an excellent double bill together... I rewatched Dunkirk a day before seeing Darkest Hour.... The reverse order is probably ideal, but it works nonetheless...

Just so long as you don't stick Pearl Harbor on the end.

Chris Nolan's musical score in Dunkirk makes the movie more like the 'feeling' of being there. I thought it raised the movies potential.

The incidental nature of the battle scenes don't bother me at all and it needed no explanation to context it. I watch Dunkirk every time its on TV for the music & the horrible way the soldiers treat each other and there allies in the face of certain death.....however I can only force my self to watch Darkest Hour. Its a great movie in that it shows how pivotal Churchill was in saving Britain and the war for the WALLIES.

That was a huge battle I had with my parents about that period of history. They demanded that Britain would have fallen had Churchill not stood up to Herr Hitler. Now I finally see context for that POV. The war cabinet looks like a bigger threat to Britain than Hitler was .

Roosevelt seemed sooo useless. Where the USA/Roosevelt really going to abandon Britain to the Nazi claws?
