My thoughts here on this subject, I'm really not happy about it! - https://thefilmmeister.com/2017/03/07/netflix-and-the-irishman/

Thanks for linking me to that kool write-up. I, too, feel very strongly about The Irishman and want it to be formidable both commercially and artistically. After looking into the deal with Netflix elsewhere, I had just assumed that the film would eventually be released on DVD/Blu-ray. I can't imagine that not happening.
As for a theatrical run for the film, I seem to recall seeing that there would be one. To not do so, would be anti-cinema. Hell, if you ask me, it would be anti-Scorsese.

Well it would be a first for Netflix if they released it widely in cinemas and onto DVD. I personally don't think that will happen but let's hope your optimism turns out to be true

I only said it because I know that Netflix rents out DVDs...I don't know about the "widely in cinemas" part, though.

Just record it on a HDD or DVD recorder or record it on DVD/BRD on your computer and a monthly subscription to Netflix is a lot cheaper than the price of a new film on DVD /BRD.And Star Trek Discovery was released on DVD and BRD. And in stead of blaming Netflix one should blame the major studios for not wanting to invest in movies like the Irishman or the documentary you mentioned, but in stead are churning out the relatively low risk (and low brow)franchise movies and rebooting/rehashing of classic movies. All Netflix did was fill the gap for that kind of original content because viewers don't get that kind of content in the cinemas anymore or in very limited releases. Also a movie like The Irishman in the current Hollywood climate would never get made because the movie doesn't feature "strong women" or hasn't "enough racial diversity" so even if the movie had been made by a major studio Scorcese would probably had to make so much compromises that it wouldn't remotely be the movie he wanted to make.Scorcese choose the lesser of two evils.
