Is this a true remake?

From the trailers it looks more like a revenge movie. Willis is going after a specific gang with specific targets. In the original Bronson walked the streets minding his own buisness and when someone tried to mug him he defended him self.

They changed quite a bit... It's a much more hopeful movie and not as fatalistic as the 70s film...
But yes, more of a remake than just an homage...

This is such a subjective question. Whatever rings as "true" to one cinema fan might ring as "false" to 12 others....

Eventually, yes. But he starts out pure vigilante...
(Spoilers) ... Once he gets into revenge mode, which is built to gradually, he starts off just as a vigilante... Going after any criminals he sees.. Then by seeking out their areas and such due to his work as an ER surgeon.. but he later comes across something related to the gang that killed his wife and starts tracking them down specifically...

hmmm. I think I prefer the Bronson way...just walking the streets takeing the subway with a grocery bag and....BANG!

@Raymondoz2007 The Bronson movie will always be more iconic, but it was of it's time... Also, he lost everyone and was completely isolated...
Worth checking this one out, I'd love to hear your thoughts...

I enjoyed it. It turned out better than I thought it was going to be. It's funny in a way because in the end; it's interesting to me how they let him get away with it...like maybe what you would have seen from films in the 70s.

I couldn't agree with you more. I hadn't heard of this new version, and having seen the original I assumed this was a remake. Probably because I had those things in mind, this film was a total disappointment. Honestly, I wish they would have just released it under another title as it was so far from the original. At least that way it might have had a fair shot.
