Willem Dafoe has kicked off his awards run with the National Board of Review award for Best Supporting Actor, for his terrific work in The Florida Project. The NBR tends to be an unpredictable organisation and doesn't have as much influence in the Oscars race as they would like, but it's a good start for this fine, perhaps under appreciated actor.
I do hope that the cinematography of this film is recognised somewhere or other - it really did have a striking visual atmosphere.

...and now Dafoe has picked up the New York Film Critics Award for the film too. His first Oscar nomination in 17 years is looking likely at this point.

A strange one for it though. I don't get the impression he had to try particularly hard. He's convincing, but hardly needed to demonstrate the range we know he has from other films. I think this film is overhyped.
