Discuss Patriots Day

...then this movie passed with flying colors. Let's take a look at all the ways they failed. Keep in mind, I have no idea how accurately the movie reflects the actual events.

So the bombing happens, and they have pictures of the suspects, but are completely unable to determine any identification, where the bombers came from, or where they went. After three days they give up and ask the public for help. The bombers make a reappearance when they kill a patrol officer at MIT, but the police are unable to use this event to find the killers. So the bombers kidnap a guy and steal his SUV, and they're driving around for a while with a hostage in a stolen car. Finally they get some help when the owner bravely escapes and calls the cops. He tells the police that the guys who stole his car are the bombers they're looking for, and gives them the car's GPS tracking number. After turning up zero leads of their own, the police finally know what they're looking for, and succeed in locating the stolen vehicle with the bombers inside. Do they approach quietly to apprehend the suspects without incident? Do they form a perimeter? No, they're immediately spotted, and a massive shootout ensues. After what appears to be quite a bit of time, with perhaps dozens of officers now on the scene (all approaching from the same direction), they shoot one of the bombers, and let the other one drive out in the same vehicle he drove in. Apparently no one thought to try to surround him or close off the streets. So the guy is driving off in this bullet-ridden car, and despite a plethora of officers on the scene, he gets away without any pursuit whatsoever. To make matters worse, an officer is shot by one of his own while they're lined up shooting across the street at each other, and a police vehicle is also shot up by more clueless officers.

Now the second bomber is gone, they have no idea where he is. The mayor puts the city on lockdown, and the police go door to door searching for him. Do they find him that way? No. They don't locate him until a local resident calls in and says that he sees someone in his boat. So the BPD show up, surround the suspect, then get twitchy and shoot up the poor guy's boat for no reason. At long last, the FBI take control, apparently tell the police to GTFO, and apprehend the suspect.

At the end of the movie, they talk about being "Boston Strong." Well, Boston residents better be damn strong with police like that protecting them.

I watched the movie, and didn't think of it that way. But you make a lot of sense. relaxed
