Discuss Split

I had high hopes for this actor. I liked the David and Patricia duo, even though they were a bit more comical than I think that thay were ment to be, but I was dissapointed by Hedwig (he's not consistant in age) and the kevin bit was just so bleak! What did you think?

Hmm, I'm curious what you mean by Hedwig not being consistent in age?

I was very disappointed in Split as well as McAvoy's performance. With the right direction he's quite good and has a fantastic range, Night has the ability to direct well, look at Sixth Sense. After the crap fest that was The Visit (and nearly everything before that) I was hoping they would bring out the best in each other. Instead we had a film that reminded me it was a production by the man who brought us Last Airbender and Lady in The Water.

This was the first film of Night's I've wanted to see in the theater since Signs. Now I'm going back to waiting until it's on Netflix. I feel for McAvoy who appears as if he had been given the day's script with only 20 minutes to prepare for filming

While some of us thought McAvoy gave the performance of his life. Opinions and all that.

I liked the David and Patricia duo

David? Who is David? Anyway...I love when people start a thread just to be a contrarian. McAvoy's performance is being praised by everyone, even by those who didn't like the film, so yeah I'll say it sucked and won't even name the character he played right.

Says the person with the cartoon icon. Guess that explains your feeble understanding of human acting.

McAvoy carried this movie and almost overcame the clunky, tailored-to-make-a-franchise ending... He was by far the best thing about this film...

I thought he was horrible. His transition from character to character was barely noticeable at times. They were not distinct enough. Dennis should've been stronger in his convictions, and his transformations to Patricia was weak. He should've played her role with more femininity.

Barry barely came off as gay, and Orwell/Jade was saved by the subtitles to tell me who they were. Thank gawd for Hedwig's lisp. At least we knew who that was, but again he failed at becoming a 9yr old. IMO, epic fail. They should've gotten someone else to play the role.

(But I did love the dance)

And here we go with this crap. I'm a troll cause I thought he was horrible? IMO, he was horrible. If you liked him, well good for you. I didn't care for him. Be smart and embrace other's options. And while you're at it, go look up the definition and try not to let others who think differently than you ruin your day. (geez)

I'm thinking the reason they called you a troll is due to how you worded your post.

"His transition from character to character was barely noticeable at times. They were not distinct enough." This is surprising to me considering how between the main alters we see, he completely changes the way he rests his face, tone in speaking, accent, and posture. He wasn't exactly subtle. Even the ones we only see for a matter of seconds like Jade, Barry, and Orwell are still distinct from the others in at least tone and accent. I could tell who was fronting at all times, and there's one scene where Dennis and Patricia are co-fronting to an extent (in the kitchen making the sandwiches). The DID presentation is already really florid and exaggerated, if they'd done anymore it would've looked... ridiculous. They almost crossed that line with Orwell, he makes me internally wince in his second scene, outside of the video log.

Patricia was feminine in her posture, warmer and softer speaking, little things like how she bends down to pick things up, and towards the end when she lightly re-arranges the towel across her chest. What would have made her more feminine for you?

When receiving instruction on Hedwig, McAvoy was told to play a "smart 9 year old, not a dumb adult" and I think he came across that way for the most part while still being pretty childish and with a dash of something dark.

Well. I tend to disagree with you. But unlike others, I respect your version and opinion. And yes, I worded my post exactly how I meant to.

I thought his performance was great.

Exactly. He was superb in his little mannerisms, little gestures and expressions, the way his voice changed. I could write a book about that performance.

To call such dedicated craft "horrible" can only come from a troll. Ignore it.

I am surprised to see these negative comments on his performance. He was amazing, the way he went from each character was superb.

The best time being when he went from being pretend Barry to Dennis in the psychiatrists office. The subtlety in the transformation was intense

I won't ignore a post because I don't share those particular views. In fact, as the post you brand 'trolling' offers nothing in the way of antagonism toward fellow members, while all of yours do, I'd suggest addressing your own conduct.

Trying to trigger folks is a form of antagonism and though I don't believe Tyler was trolling he did (and intentionally he seems to admit) word his post to rub people up the wrong way, the character of Patricia couldn't be more feminine if McAvoy spontaneously grew breasts for the part because everything the character did was effeminate. Though to be honest, having the word 'arse' in your name doesn't go a long way to convincing people you are here for intelligent discussion...
