Yeah, I agree. It somehow tied in with the conclusion of the psychiatrist who said that some personalities were able to transform (or something along those lines) but it reminded me of a light version of the X-men 'Beast'.

With regards to the ending, I thought that Casey - who had a very troubled past - appeared to have also some sort of Multiple Personality Disorder and would suddenly slip into a different personality which relieved her from anxiety and would take on the Beast.

That very last part really feels like you've just watched a 2 hour publicity stunt for that sequel they're trying to pitch.

Ha ha. Indeed. I was watching 'Split' with some people who hadn't seen 'Unbreakable' so they were going like: 'huh? What's the deal with Bruce Willis?'.

lol I've never seen Unbreakable, so I didn't get the Bruce Willis ending at all.

This was my first Shyamalan movie. I was looking forward to a twist, but this one had no real impact for me. I just thought it was a cameo by some Unbreakable character and didn't realize the whole sequel thing. The mini twist that Kevin worked at a zoo was kind of interesting though.

The last scene was shocking for me. I didn't expect it at all. I had mixed feelings about the movie, it had some amazing parts, and some parts that I didn't like, so I tried to digest the movie. Than, the scene when the policewoman told Casey that her uncle is there was a punch in my stomach. I think, it was great writing, it was really effective, and I liked that they left it open. During the last McAvoy scene, I still couldn't decide what to think about this Beast thing (I didn't realize the music cue), then the very end blew my mind. I just stared at the screen for minutes. I was glad that it wasn't spoiled for me, and I experienced it in the cinema. Since I did not have a solid opinion of the movie at that time, I wasn't sure if it is a good thing that it's connected to Unbreakable. But the more I think about it the more I like it. I don't like Split as much as I like Unbreakable, but it's a worthy "sequel" and a very unusual, original one.

I felt exactly like you. I was also not aware of the link to Unbreakable, having not seen it for a long time I did not pick up online score either. It was a very nice surprise and was set up nicely for a split/unbreakable sequel.

When Willis appeared I was dying for a continued homage to Unbreakable by way of some goofy text summaries, like:

"Casey is now gainfully employed at an animal refuge"

"The Beast is a popular livestreamer of rock climbing in Equatorial Guinea"

Alas, a real missed opportunity.
