Sorry I don't see it. It's one of her worst performances. But the director didn't give her much to do so..

I dont know if "the most" overrated but she's simple not good enough to carry a whole film, specially of this caliber. I really don't know when it all blew out for her... the overrated movie for when she won the precious oscar.. In my opinion neither her or the film deserved all that fuzz. Her only decent film is American Hustle and again she is over the top in my opinion.

To me she's poison for a interesting premise of a film. I like all the metaphor aspects, the weird, none explanatory scenes etc. I loved Pi and The Fountain... and maybe I will like this story since I would make of it for me, I won't have a chew up hollywood ending, but Lawrence takes it just mehhhhhh for me.

Hope to see it soon, since Barden and Harris are my hopes for this. Pfeiffer is still a pretty face with decent enough acting skills, because I mean she is not Juliette Binoche, Kate Winslet, Tilda Swinton, Helen Mirren... etc.

Yah, the " Transformers' crowd is gonna hate this. The guy behind me said " THAT SUCKED'" after it was over.

I thought it ROCKED! Jennifer did fine. Its one of those movies where WTF movie enthusiasts can have lengthy conversations trying to figure out what exactly they just experienced. Is it some Faustian freak fest? A hallucinatory horror show? A ghost story? What parallel universe have we just dipped into?

" DONT SIT ON THE SINK!!" Is that a metaphor for something, or did Aronofsky just throw the kitchen sink in this thing???

No it isn't anything that interesting. According to the writer/director the entire movie is a metaphor for the certain events that happened in the bible and how humanity treats the planet. Jennifer Lawrence's character is mother nature. That house is earth and the objects in it (sink, walls) are part of earth. Javier Bardem's character is a god. Ed Harris is Adam and Michelle Pffiefer is Eve. Their sons are Cain and Able. The rest of the events in the movie are how humanity mistreat mother earth and how religion is a cult. So in other words, the movie is the directors commentary about the evils of religion and humanity. And the gore is all part of a ploy to market this film as sort of a horror movie.

"Transformers crowd" is an easy out but I can't for one minute think of any unreligious cretin who would want to be lectured to for 2 hours in a cinema.

Pffffft. Regardless of what Aronofsky has said about his own movie, I dont think even HE can figure out what hes laid down here. As an atheist who wouldnt be caught dead at a Kirk Cameron praise jesus movie, I thoroughly enjoyed this whacked out ride. Good luck finding the 'religious lecture' here, Aronofskys explanations seems like a stretch, or merely a vague pretentious analogy. As a cinematic experience, I thought it entertaining albeit sometimes confusing, but in a good way. Sounds like the last two posters havent even seen the thing. Most likely cus they are at home watching the last TRANSFORMERS movie ;)

I wasnt a big fan of the Hunger Games series but I did like Jennifer in WINTERS BONE and I did like her in this.

I will buy the blu-ray on this one, because unlike Rarebreed, who thought it was horrible and wanted his money back, I want to see it again.

Well.. I didn't realise there was any hatred for this movie... but then again, I avoid news about movies I haven't seen, which is fairly easy to do as I don't really use social media apps and most of my friends don't discuss movies like they used to (they're realy into TV shows and politics instead)...

I thought it was interesting and I liked it, although I found it a little too on-the-nose towards the last third of the movie, but I suppose he wanted to go full on biblical, rather than to be subtle and keep the surface of the thriller/drama going on until the end... It could have left many alternate interpretations open, as I think there were many racing through my mind as I watched the story unfold...

Religion, nature, art, creation, celebrity, purpose in marraige, family, loss, revolution, anarchy, political order, the state, the church, belief, devotion, the bible, sacrifice, etc... and other concepts all get reduced to a metaphorical retelling of various biblical stories... So the "explanation" of the movie of itself towards the end robs the viewer of all of the interesting thoughts he was processing earlier in the movie... in a way... BUT, we still got to go through that once, which was interesting...

I wonder if the ambiguity of the first half of the movie will survive on a second viewing. I doubt it.

Still, I liked the movie. I think it is refreshing to see a filmmaker attempt to do this kind of movie and have it released widely, flawed as the movie may be...

I think the criticism comes from two (OK three, but I'll get to the third later) directions: those who didn't get the film at all and were thoroughly confused throughout and afterward and consigned it to their personal scrap heaps, and those who didn't get the film, were curious enough to read explanations of it, and were subsequently annoyed for not understanding a simple allegory and retrospectively feeling like they've either been preached or laughed at for two hours. Neither of which is true.

It's simply a film. Aronofsky felt strongly about the themes depicted, wanted to tell the story, and just told it. There's nothing offensive in here, indeed, there's much to praise: the photography, the sound design, the production design, and the performances from the leads - particularly Jennifer Lawrence. As usual, Aronofsky pulls it off with aplomb, and it's difficult to think of another director who could have made this particular film as well as he did.

(The third set of people who didn't like mother! actually did understand it and just...didn't like it, for personal/subjective reasons - obviously this group always exists and I can't comment on them at all)
