What was the point of portraying the government as entirely fascist? Extra judicial killings, torture, etc...?
Shock value? Or is it just taken for granted that this happens given contemporary cynicism?

SPOILER
It did wrap things up nice and neatly - Maggie (? - I think that's her name or codename) gave up everything we already knew off camera and meant Quon didn't have to drag the story out by going back for her (this being a revenge flick and all).

One of my favorite scenes was when Jackie Chan made Pierce Brosnan push the button on the cell phone that revealed to social media that the woman he was having an affair with happened to be an IRA operative.

@Damienracer Well... the movie is based on a 1992 book called The Chinaman... So it kinda makes sense for it to be the IRA given the time period... It is this way in the book aparently...
The only confusing part about the movie is that they didn't set it in the 90s, rather it is set in contemporary times, if I remember correctly... So I can see how someone could come to that conclusion if they didn't know about the book...
