Discuss The Void

Ugh

Too many flashbacks were piled on in the third act in an attempt to explain the story. The loss of the children for the (three) lead men in the story could have been detailed much better.

There was no clear rationale for pretty much all of the characters ... why did the father and son set fire to what they thought were masochistic tweakers at the very beginning? Why did Richard seem to not care or not intervene when his reanimated "daughter" was getting shot in the face and burned... I thought that was his objective. Why does the new nurse know all the details about the abondoned basement but know nothing about nursing?

Loved this movie.

Why did Richard seem to not care or not intervene when his reanimated "daughter" was getting shot in the face and burned...

Because death is not the end. He did not care, because she was reborn and he knew the key to immortality... all they did is kill the cocoon. Remember, the Daniel (cop) also slashed his wife/monster with an axe, but they still met each other in the void.

The ending unfortunately tries to make it look like the good guys won, by pushing them both into the portal, which I thought sends very confusing message. But making it look like the bad guy is really on to something probably wouldn't fly with most people :) I want to think of this movie as a Re-Animator type of deal rather than The Thing meets Hellraiser.

At the end, we see the protagonist with his wife, alive in the Void.

The doctor (Richard) was nowhere to be seen ,and neither was his daughter, so why do you presume they unlocked the secret to immortality when there is no such indication they survived the ordeal?

Well, the words like "alive" or "survive" are probably not exactly correct, but they do continue to exist in the void. If they did, why wouldn't the doctor Richard or even his daughter? He seemed very powerful, almost godlike, I doubt something like this would stop him.

And if it really is happy ending for the good guys then it means Richard was right and if he was right then why shouldn't he also continue to exist after death?
