Discuss The Void

... but this is looking and sounding promising. I've been burned by too many low budget horror flicks in the past, so I'm going to temper my expectations, but the Lovecraftian aesthetic and apparent nods to The Thing has me hoping for something worthwhile.

I am still cautiously optimistic.

Hahaha! Even if it is a completely different film. :)

@NonSequitur I guess, 'The Void' is a popular name. laughing I will keep an eye on this board instead.

I'm sure the other "Void" will be great too... but yeah... this is the one I meant. Haha...

I also meant to ask if you had any recommendations beyond the ones I listed!

@NonSequitur , you picked some great movies, sticking within the last 3 years or so.

A Field in England (2013) Goodnight Mommy (2014) The Neon Demon (2016) Starry Eyes (2014) We Are What We Are (2013)

These two are more well known, that I liked also.

Hush (2016) Don't Breathe (2016)

Both of you have listed off some of the best horror of recent years already, here and in the "other void." Bone Tomahawk, It Follows and Backcountry are favorites. I can only add:

8/10

I Am a Hero (2015)

Grave (Raw) (2016)

Deathgasm (2015)

7/10 - the more notable ones

Baskin (2015) - the first half is some of the greatest atmospheric horror I've seen recently

Bloodsucking Bastards (2015) - very funny

Welp (Cub) (2014)

Odd Thomas (2013)

[edit] and this is how I learned TMDb doesn't like line breaks in their posts. Let me try two line breaks between lines...

Seen all of 'em, except for We Are What We Are, which is on my list. I'll have to check it out. :)

I thought the same, exact thing when I backed the Kickstarter for Harbinger Down. Boy, was that a waste of my $$$'s!

I haven't seen a single one of those recs, so it looks like I have some watching to do! I've been wanting to see Raw, Deathgasm, Baskin, and Odd Thomas, but the rest I hadn't heard of 'til now. Definitely gonna check them out, thank you. :)

Agreed, Harbinger Down was less than satisfying. I keep hoping for someone to make a really good practical effects monster movie and it just ain't happening. The over-reliance on CGI has really hurt horror, but you also need a good script to back it up.

@Nanook I haven't seen anything on your list, thanks! I've been meaning to watch Baskin for awhile.

Also, great tip on the line breaks, I was wondering why my recs were all on the same line... thinking

Enjoy!

Baskin is like two different movies stuck together. Hopefully you guys will like at least one of them.

And it's weird about the line breaks. One is ignored and everything is put on the same line, then two gives you double spacing. But how the heck do we do single line spacing...?

[edit] just learned that you have to give at least two line breaks after a quote too...

I thought it was pretty awesome but then I didn't have expectations before watching as I had no idea what it was about. It's not big on story but the effects we're great.

I was finally able to see this one - I'd give it an A for effort, even though it's definitely limited by its budget, script and cast. The real stars are the special effects, and they're mostly practical which is a massive, massive plus in my book. Worth a look at the very least.
