I was definitely not expecting this movie to be as good as it was. I was very pleasantly surprised. It definitely did not deserve 0 nominations.

Jessica Chastain for lead actoress, for one. The writing in the movie was also very good, imo.

Interesting... It's on my watchlist... Who would you replace out of the other 5 actresses?

Florence Foster Jenkins was an entirely unexceptional movie, imo. That movie did not work for me at all.
The movie had funny moments and somewhat sad moments. The movie tries to balance comedy and tragedy, a difficult task to be sure, but in the end it was not able to complete the task successfully. Meryl Streep was okay, she tried her best, but she wasn't able to garner my sympathy for the character. This might not be her fault, but it might be a fault of the character. Regardless of the character's past tragedy, it's difficult to feel sad for a character so complacent and so surrounded by servile stewards.
A character born into wealth and who has lived in luxury throughout her life without raising a finger while there are people struggling to make ends meet. And we are supposed to feel sympathy for her because she was unfairly stricken with an ailment?
The worst part about the movie is that the movie did not even address the wealth gap. It doesn't show anyone struggling in poverty. What the movie should have been is a caricature of the wealthy, it did not even attempt to do this. Instead it's just a silly comedy with complacent wealthy people at every corner.
So, I would replace Meryl Streep's nomination.

In my top 3 of last year. Jessica Chastain deserved to be nominated at least.

Just saw this movie... she should have replaced Streep in the nominations... but I still think Portman should have won... she was head and shoulders above the rest who were nominated this year...

I think Any Adams should definitely have been in there for ARRIVAL or NOCTURNAL ANIMALS (instead of Streep). Robbed!

Really? I don't think so. I've seen both those movies and I don't think Adams carried those movies in the same way that Chastain carried Miss Sloane. Adam's performance was okay, don't get me wrong, but I didn't think it was exceptional to the point of attention.

To be honest though, Chastain had to carry this film... it was centered on her character and if it wasn't for her nuanced performance could have easily ended up being one-dimensional and didactic...

Definitely Streep. I think her name is permanently printed on the ballot. FFJ was a okay movie, certainly not Oscar caliber. I think Amy should have been up for Nocturnal Animals, or Jessica for Sloane.
