Yeah, he lost his phone, remember. I don't think he lies, I just think that he doesn't have his son in law's number yet on his new phone.

Didn't Emad bring the mobile phone/cash that Rana's attacker left behind at the new flat after he attacked her?

First he accepted the old man's explanation that he didn't have Majid's number, but then he clicked, and when he remembered that the attacker left the phone behind, he realised that the old man would have got a new phone, had to import all the contacts etc.

Thank you so much for your reply! I finally made the connection between the phone that the old man left behind and the new phone he had to buy because of it. Somehow I forgot about this while watching and I didn't understand what @SunParakeet and @strain tried to explain to me ...

I actually watched the scene again, and it seems like that Emad finally was convinced because the old man said during his conversation on the (new) phone that his son in law doesn't have his new number, yet. I didn't realize the connection when I first watched the movie, but now it's very clear to me.
