Hi,
I liked this movie, but one thing that I would've like more is if they would've developed more the "lore" of the Djinns. Are there any other good movies that explore the islamic/arabic mythology?

i can't answer your question, but what are your thoughts that what was happening was not a djinn at all but a manifestation of a mental disorder, or possibly a psychic manifestation of the mother's emotional turmoil?

Yeah, the thought crossed my mind as well, especially if you look at the setting, war is ragging on, bombs are literally falling on their home, her marriage falling apart, her dreams are getting crushed, it can take a toll on someone. In the beginning I thought it was more of a imagination problem on her part, but the more the movie went one the more I think it was actually something supernatural, the boy who was talking about djinn, the neighbors, the doll, the book. I guess even these events can be explained by a mental disorder, her trying to connect the dots, to fill in the blanks, to explain her real problems. But guess this is what makes it a good movie

Try Dabbe: Bir Cin Vakasi (2012) & Jeruzalem (2015) might be of interest.

I remember a british film from the 2002 called Long Time Dead, where a group of friends unleash a Djin. It wasn't fantastic by any stretch, but the do explain a bit of the lore and myth around Djins

Seems rather unlikely , both daughter and mother sees same things , although can't be outright denied there is one scene where neighbor tells her , your mind would believe anything you want to.

it can happen; it is known as a folie a deux.

Oh , didn't know this had name ; cool. It's unlikely , not impossible ; as I said. Were there any symptoms where director or movie suggests this is more psychological than supernatural ?

if you accept the idea of a folie a deux, arguably all of what happened could be described as a psychotic break, brought on by the trauma of war and that unexploded bomb landing in the roof. i prefer the supernatural angle though :)

Although it doesn't explore islamic/arabic mythology, this film really reminded me of Dark Water. The Japanese version obviously.

I thought Jeruzalem was abysmally bad and this wasn't much better.

Yeah, I thought pretty much everything was under developed except what an insufferable, self absorbed jerk Shideh was to her daughter, her husband and even her neighbor. The horror aspect had no resolution, reason or even identity. Just some phantom in a table cloth, "haunting" them for some unknown reason. No resolution of anything at the end, either. I gave it a 3.
