......when Benjamin says he doesn't want to talk to her after she enigmatically says his name at the end of the bedroom scene in the middle of the movie? What do you think she wanted to talk about? Bancroft played the character as so intense but also was so heartbreaking whenever she was sad. Great performance.

I don't think she really wanted to talk at all, she just wanted sexual satisfaction to add some pizazz to her otherwise pitiful existence. I think the same could be said for Benjamin.
This is my first post on the discussion boards of this site. I just hope the trolls stay away.

Certainly at the beginning, but she actually tries to talk to him at the end of that bedroom scene and he's the one who doesn't want to talk, the reversal of the beginning of the scene.

I just watched that scene again. Ben had lost interest in talking to her because she said he wasn't good enough for her daughter, thereby insulting him. Then she says his name and he cuts her off; his experiment in talking didn't go very well. Perhaps she was going to say "Benjamin, can't we just continue to meet and bring pleasure to one another?" But maybe not; they both had just been hurt by the other. I guess we'll never know.
I always found it interesting that the first names of Mr. and Mrs. Braddock and Mr. and Mrs. Robinson were never revealed. What do you think that might have meant?

It's always bugged me what she was going to say in that scene. I've made threads about it before, I like to hear people's ideas. I think she seemed so hurt when he said he didn't want to talk to her at the end that she probably had something more meaningful to say than that.
I think the first name thing is just to show the divide between the "kids" and the "adults" in the film which is one of the big themes. Not knowing any of the older characters first names helps you feel the alienation Ben/Elaine feel towards them.
One of my favorite movies because of how layered all the interactions are, as evidenced by this thread. Basically a perfect film.
