Discusión The Snowman

I love how the police in this movie act like they are living in some sort of banana republic in Africa. Who needs forensic science and stuff like ballistics when you can just come to wild deductions on your own. I mean when you find a police detective who has blown his head off with a shotgun, it's not like it's normal procedure and mandatory to have an autopsy and investigate whether or not there is evidence to support a suicide. Nah, bro, just dump him in a hole with half his head missing we are calling this case closed. It's not like forensics could determine whether or not the guy was holding the gun that shot him and whether the angle at which it was shot would make any sense. It was also kind of jarring how when they found a dismembered body they seemed to call the entire Norwegian police force and military there, but when the female detective thinks she knows where the killer might be, she just decides to go and catch the killer on her own. I guess it was her collar. What else....the ace "norwegian" detective Harry Hole hears a very distinctive phone ringtone at the site that is soon going to be a gruesome murder scene and a couple of scenes later he hears the same distinctive tune again at his own home and there is some masked bro there dancing, but this doesn't seem to arouse any suspicion or questions in the ace detective. The whole movie is filled with stupid stuff like this and it's all there to make way for a very mediocre and generic plot you've seen a hundred times, and most likely you will guess the killer long before this stinker has come to its conclusion.

MAJOR SPOILER

I have to admire the dedication of the killer, though. That guy went through the trouble of going all the way through medschool and after that even going through the additional trouble of specializing in plastic surgery and apparently becoming one of the top names in his field, even though his heart wasn't in it, like, at all, and all he wanted to do was make snowmen at random chicks' backyards and in front of Harry Holes' apartment and throw snowballs at people and prank call them. That's dedication people.

How many times has the cliche of a high-ranking Police Officer refusing to see clear evidence of homicide and saying "No, this was suicide. Case closed!" then turning on his heel to walk brusquely away been used in disappointingly bad films like this...trillions?

Or even the one of someone talking during what's supposed to be a suspenseful scene, then BAM something leaps on a nearby window scaring the people talking...whew, it's just a dog. Or in this case, a precocious child who likes to dress up as a donkey. Hee haw, indeed.

Or my personal favorite, someone tries to entrap the person they think is the killer, only to be killed by the real killer. Ooh, didn't see that coming. Our killer here is adept at hiding bodies in plain sight when necessary; was that Week Two of Oslo Medical School?
