It was excellent fun, and touching in places. The New Zealand scenery was breathtaking. Always good to see a grumpy old guy, warm up to a precocious but lovable kid. It was heartwarming .
I just watched this again. It came out on Hulu. I think it was even better the second time around as I was listening closer to the dialogue. This movie is so funny. 🤣
It kept me amused throughout and was way ahead of Waititi's film Boy in my book (the only other of his films I'd seen). I've not watched a Marvel film in years but I love that the director will be squeezing millions out of the Marvel films as an actor and director. He deserves a all the money he can rake in from Thor having made this wee gem.
Sam Neill was the best pervert since Kevin Bacon in The Woodsman and I loved the soundtrack and scenery. Not a complete classic but it's rare for a film to elicit a titter from me these days and I preferred it to quite a lot of Wes Anderson's output (which is probably the nearest comparison).
This was a beautiful, touching film full of sweetness and some sadness. It was recommended to me by some friends- who said it was the best film ever. I have to agree with them. The struggles of this rejected child and gruff widower are a delight- and will soothe your heart if you’re hurting.
