i thought it was going to be a mockery but turned out to be pretty deep and insightful. i recommend it and you dont need to see thee original to enjoy it.

8 million on opening despite it being screened at few theathers. not bad.

No, you don't need to see the original. But if you have seen it you are probably more curious as to the behind the scenes transactions of how such a film could ever see the light of day. This is a true underdog story. lol
