So I have not seen this, but was excited for it. I didn't love the first, but really only because of the protagonists (not a Liv Tyler fan, and didn't like the awkward situation they started in), but otherwise thought the original was great. Reviews have been all over the place on this, but only a 33% on this site, so please, without spoilers, tell me why it was panned here! Thanks!

Finally just saw it. I enjoyed it! Not the most impressive thing I've ever seen or anything, but I had a good time with the film and thought it was good.

It was OK, but I wish they'd stop making the protagonists do stupid things! And for me, the film was too short, could've done with more deaths :)

I totally agree that the protagonists do stupid things, but I also come from a self-defense background. Been practicing some stuff for years now and that is one of the most frustrating things in horror movies. How does mommy dearest (in the film) just let herself die without a fight? Bugged me! Backward elbow to masked bitch's sternum, turn, engage! And frankly yes, dad was really hurt when bag head got into the car, but seriously, instead of begging (we know they are killers by this point!) and crying, fucking hammer fist the dude a few times! You're not gonna win at that point, but go out swinging!!!

Ha, yeah, you're right, the mum I agree with - she should've done some sort of backward elbow / reverse headbutt. Human nature shows people will do anything to survive.
The dad, well, it was a bit different for him as there was a massive wooden block through his abdomen so it's understandable he couldn't do much!
I think the main problem is that it ticked all the horror film clichés: splitting up, doing stupid things, killer never really dead...
