I think it ended where it should have begun. They describe it as a man's nervous breakdown but don't give any plausible reasons why. He just seemed bored by his job and his mundane life. I wondered why his wife didn't notice that the chairs disappeared from outside the garage and why nobody came to get their vacation gear from the garage. Also, he seemed very resentful of his wife in the beginning, resenting her "rules" - but by the end he felt nothing but pure love for her - hmmmm... couldn't be that another guy was about to get his feet under her table could it? If I had been his wife I would have kicked him straight back out.
