Discuss Friend Request

I can understand why there's not a lot of discussion about this movie; I don't think there was much in promotion or trailers that I remember, and I go to the drive-in at least once a week. In any case, I found the more I watched this movie...the more I enjoyed it. I felt who ever wrote the script realistically portrayed the frustrations of dealing with software issues which in this movie it's easily understood there's a connection, and a underlying evil taking place below the surface causing these problems. This movie also touches on modern culture in the way that your worth is based on the number of friends you have on a social media website. Evidently; having zero friends on social media will turn your life into turmoil, and even get you suspended from school! If that isn't scary; being kicked out gives the main character the time needed to do play detective to understand the mystery of why her classmates are dying.

I guess it's a known fact that you can't have a scary movie unless there's a basement you have to go crawling around in and explore. Towards the end; we get that basement scene in the most unexpected ways which doesn't end well for our heroine, and then there's more action, suspense, twists and turns.

Overall; I felt the movie is a pretty good ride because it came from nowhere and entertained without any preconceived notions. The only negative thing I can say about this movie is it ends too quickly, and I'm not talking about it's short (by today's standards) 92 minute running time; it was just odd to me that the moment the action was over, the credits started rolling. If you care about character development; forget it...your going to have to make it up as the movie rolls along. If the movie was at least 120 minutes; there could be time for all that, but then your dealing with a slower paced movie at least for it's start, and that may not be the audience the producer and/or director is targeting.

Maybe I should have just said I liked it!

It's funny, you brought up the movie I was going to kind of relate it to... "Unfriended" (2014.) Turns out; there's a new one called "Unfriended 2" that might come out later this year or 2018. The nice thing about Friend Request is how the movie takes place in multiple locations; not just in front of a notebook like what happens in "Unfriended." In any case; it was hard to sit through "Unfriended" even though there was enough going on to keep me intrigued. "Friend Request" when comparing the two is (I feel) much better not just because it takes place in more than one spot, but because the characters are smarter, and therefore everything seems to be much more realistic.

By the way, if "Unfriended 2" comes out to my local drive-in; I will be checking it out!
