There's a part where the musicians are asked what they'll do if they don't 'make it' and most will only answer "but I will make it". People seem to make fun of this part a lot but I think they're misunderstanding the mindset behind this statement. These bands all moved to L.A. from other parts of the country for the sole purpose of making a go at a music career despite having no friends in L.A., no money, no job and no place to stay! Most literally had nothing but their instruments, the clothes on their back and whatever busted down piece of crap vehicle got them there. They also had no safety net, they were rolling the dice at the risk of ending up indigent on the street in L.A. if they didn't end up with a record deal at some point, even if it took years.
If you're gonna go for it to that extent then you have to keep your hopes high and believe in what you're doing now matter how lean it gets. Once you let doubt creep in then it can become increasingly frustrating and discouraging if it seems things aren't progressing at all and you'll likely throw in the towel in a matter of months. You may as well have stayed back in Michigan or wherever if that's the case.
These kids reiterating that they will make it isn't because of naivete or ego, they're just trying to stay positive and believe in themselves and their goal. Acknowledging a situation where they might fail would be giving in to that first hint of doubt already and it likely wouldn't end well. I'm kinda surprised anybody gave an answer other than "but I will make it".
