Discuss The World Is Not Enough

This is Brosnan's 2nd greatest effort at playing James Bond (1st being Goldeneye).

I will never understand the hate that this film gets! I don't care how unrealistic Denise looks to be a nuclear physicist. This is a Bond film and she is too darn sexy that I can forgive the predictable casting. We all know that they picked her after playing in Wild Things; hence the submarine-finale scene which looks more of a wet t-shirt contest than an action scene... Anyway, you guys are acting like no beautiful girl can also be smart, which is a pathetic/sexist notion.

Now that we've agreed that she's not an issue, let's look at the rest of the cast:

-Brosnan is without a doubt, finally confident and at ease with playing Bond. Imho his line delivery is great (not excellent though) and he looks the part.

-Dench like always, is the perfect M and her beefed-up role is welcome. Thank you Purvis and Wade.

-Desmond, once again a delightful appearance -and his last- which makes it quite bittersweet. This makes the film a little more special in that regard.

-Marceau is stunning and one of the all-time BEST (villainous) Bond girls. Her part is excellent and she really makes you believe what she says. 10/10

-Coltrane is a great Bond ally and his character arc is well written. Can't complain really.

-Carlyle, a decent Bond villain who isn't afraid to throw a punch -a trait somewhat lacking in Craig's films- but the bullet wound idea is stupid imo.

The writing is above par (for a Bond film) and some of the lines are easily quotable. The story is good too and it requires at least 2 viewings to fully appreciate what is going on, especially at the beginning with King and the explosion. It's no surprise that Purvis and Wade returned for another 5 films.

Direction is all right but nothing special imo. The producers wanted a director who could 'direct women' since this film was centered around the strong and deceitful Elektra King. The action is good -w/ minimal CGI- but you have to remember that the 2nd unit did most of it because of Apted's lack of skill.

In the end, I would say that TWINE deserves way more recognition than it gets and that ppl who dislike this film should rewatch it and judge this film fairly. It might not be Brosnan's best or even in anyone's top 3, but don't act like it's any worse than 1/3 of them.
