Years ago, a friend of mine introduced to me a film director named Dario Argento via a movie we watched titled "Demons" (1985.) It was odd and different in the way it was filmed, including the use of strong colors not like what one might be used to seeing in such product from Hollywood at that time or even today. I've heard of "Suspiria" (1977) (also directed by Argento) but never had the chance to watch it. Fast forward to 2018 when I saw the new version of Suspiria (2018) arrive at my local drive-in...I immediately took the opportunity to watch it. Even though it was not directed by Argento; I read the direction and form of the film mimicked much of Argento's style. What I witnessed first hand was a masterpiece of film-making like I've never seen before. Never have I seen drama portrayed on the screen just by only camera movements. No special effects, wild makeup or sound effects...just rapid camera movement. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of special effects, makeup and sound effects during other parts of the movie, but there are moments where there are none, however the viewer is left only with their senses based only by the panning of the motion picture camera. Suggestions conveyed only by movement and one's imagination...it's a sense one's not used to having to use in most, if not all modern motion pictures. It was a trip and it blew me away!
Shot on film; one can clearly see the conveniences of digital is no longer in play as the most practical way to capture on film is to expose only what's intended during the shoot rather than add or correct elements later. This type of filming enhances the art of storytelling by eliminating distractions so common in today's motion picture industry.

I just so happen to have already asked for the original one on Blu-ray for Christmas (along with a few other movies on Blu-ray.) I'll be watching it sometime in the next 10 days or so, and I'll be sure to post a comment about it.

I personally didn't care for the original & will wait to see the remake when it comes out on BluRay.
Have a Merry Christmas
