This is a mesmerising film about a European sister and brother, surviving in the Australian outback, with the help of a young Aboriginal boy....David Gulpilil , in his first film. He is an amazing natural actor, and over the years, has been in a number of excellent films. He has never become "Westernised" - and when filming is over, he goes back to his tribe. He is quite old now, and still acting, when he feels like it.

"Walkabout" has such amazing and contrasting scenes, brutal and savage acts surrounded by the beauty of nature's wild life. This movie was made 45 years ago and I wonder what is left of all this in modern Australia.

I love Walkabout and Gulpilil's performance. Such a beautiful, haunting film. He also has a memorable role in Peter Weir's The Last Wave.

The outback of Australia is still very wild. OK, cities have grown around the coast, but the heart of Aussie is still pretty untouched.

Everyone would have a smart phone now and one could easily video chat and whatever live, so a lot of the mystery would be lost, I suppose.

So sad, but true. (sighs)
