Isn't this a little bit odd?
It's like if Han Solo wore a "May The Force Be With You" t-shirt during Star Wars...

I agree with Gus, Flash was a superstar football player and is wearing his own merchandise, a Flash shirt. That is definitely not the same as Han Solo wearing a Star Wars shirt.

mmm, I don't know - that argument would only really stand up if he wasn't also wearing his own "Flash" logo wrestling vest later in the film 😂

Wouldn't a t-shirt with "I've got a bad feeling about this."might be more appropriate?

Ha - or how about a "Han Shot First" t-shirt? Now that would be some great special edition meta there!

He keeps wearing new and different shirts thoughout the film. This sort of irony wasn't fashionable at the time of the movie's release and people were more likely to just mark it down as a continuity error or some other kind of goof, possibly because it had been a long time since Flash Gordon had been a 'thing' . Still, it's odd how irony comes in and out of fashion in cycles. People got upset about Batman & Robin (1997) , particularly the armour nipples, because for whatever reason they wanted a 'serious' comic book hero. Go figure.
As for the Han Solo reference, one can't really have a satirical take on something until that something has already had a cultural impact. In other words the subject matter has to be re-visited. If there is such a thing as preemptive satire it hasn't been invented yet. Audiences would have no idea it was supposed to be funny or why.

Wearing a t-shirt with your own name printed on it... you have to be either seriously cool, or seriously forgetful.

That's right, he does wear a bunch of different shirts in the film! I was too young at my viewing to "get" it, though.
